The new Cap.π (pronounced Cappi) platform provides structured intelligence for the South African education system through curriculum-grounded support designed for the realities of local classrooms.
As artificial intelligence continues to reshape how people access information, South Africa’s education sector stands to benefit. However, the technology needs to strengthen learning without compromising curriculum integrity or learner development.
Cappi has been launched to meet this need, providing South African schools and families with a purpose-built education platform for the local market.
Through Cappi, teachers, parents, and learners can access accurate educational support that is grounded in the South African Curriculum and Assessment Policy (CAPS). It’s also available in Independent Examinations Board (IEB) Mode – assessments used in the private and independent education sector – where applicable.
Technology built to support local education
Cappi has been developed by professionals with backgrounds in both education and technology, with the design specifically for the South African education system.
“We believe that education should create clarity, yet too often the people working within the system experience complexity. We built Cappi because we feel it’s important that educational technology restores structure, rather than adding noise,” explains Tim Holliday, Founder of Maze Education and Creator and Co-founder of Cappi.
“Teachers deserve support that respects their professional judgement, learners deserve guidance that builds understanding rather than dependency, and parents deserve the confidence to meaningfully support learning at home. This technology is basically the engine behind that vision, with education our primary purpose.”
In support of this new educational platform, Acer Africa is including Cappi Student vouchers with its latest batch of 4000 Acer computers, available from Walmart, South Africa. Commenting on this commitment to Cappi, Glenn du Toit, Country Manager and Director, Acer Africa, said:
“The future of education is not teacher versus technology. It is about technology that strengthens the work of teachers while supporting learners responsibly and giving parents confidence. It’s naive to believe that learners are not using AI in their daily learning; what’s important is to provide an education platform that is not just aligned to the curriculum but is grounded too, in other words, an AI tool that will not give an American answer to a South African curriculum question.
“We recognised early on that Cappi was approaching educational technology differently. The focus is on structure that meets the needs of South African education, and this makes it a really exciting platform for the future of learning.”
Supporting every role in the education ecosystem
Cappi draws from official curriculum documentation, following the Department of Basic Education’s CAPS framework, providing users with structured educational guidance and supporting references – rather than unrestricted, internet-generated content.
To ensure it supports actual classroom needs, the platform has been beta-tested with practising teachers in various schools across the country – with an overwhelmingly positive response. Further to this, Cappi combines curriculum relevance with role-specific experiences for teachers, learners, and parents, tailoring the support to the user as needed.
One such teacher is Yolandi Meyer, a primary school maths teacher with 26 years of experience. She says one of the challenges is trying to foster a love for the subject, with Cappi providing the opportunity to engage with some new lesson ideas:

“Cappi is streamlined to meet the needs of a South African curriculum, ensuring less time searching through endless resources, while still delivering innovative ideas to use in your class and help an old-hand become excited about lesson planning, enhancing my resource library.”
Cappi acts as a structured educational assistant for teachers, helping reduce preparation pressure while keeping teachers firmly in control of their teaching and assessment. Through its design, Cappi complements professional judgement rather than replacing it, allowing teachers to spend less time on repetitive preparation and more time engaging with their learners.
The Teacher Portal supports lesson planning, worksheet creation, classroom activities, assessments, rubrics and curriculum-grounded explanations, with exports available in PDF, DOCX, and Google Docs formats.
Using Cappi, teachers can:
- Browse curriculum documentation
- Access Grade 10-12 past papers where available
- Create quizzes and share them directly to students’ devices, including mobile phones, for a quick review of learning
- Organise resources in a personal library
- Generate classroom-ready material
For learners from Grade 8 upwards, the Learner Portal serves as a patient tutor, helping them to understand concepts and prepare confidently for assessments. Unlike traditional AI tools, Cappi is grounded in Socratic methodologies that do not just give answers but test learners’ thought processes and cognitive reasoning. The built-in homework integrity safeguards encourage learners to work through concepts rather than merely accessing answers.
Features include:
- Topic explanations
- Personalised study support
- Exam preparation with direct interface into past papers for Grade 12 final-year preparation
- Practice quizzes
- Revision tools
- Grade 10 to 12 past papers where available
- Guided feedback for genuine understanding
For parents, Cappi removes much of the uncertainty around helping their children with schoolwork. Parents can access practical guidance that helps them understand what their children are learning and how best to support them without guessing the context of the content. The platform is particularly valuable during foundation years, when parents often play the greatest role in daily learning support.
The Parent Portal provides:
- Plain-language explanations
- Curriculum visibility by grade, subject, and term
- Individual profiles for each child
- Study tips
- Revision quiz creation
Designed for inclusive South African education
Cappi’s local relevance is one of its defining strengths. The platform has been purpose-built around the South African curriculum rather than adapted from a generic international model, with IEB Mode providing additional context where needed.
Beyond curriculum grounding, Cappi includes multilingual support across all 11 official South African languages, as well as French, German, and Hebrew. There are also accessibility features for colour-blind users, curriculum references, learner safeguards, and role-specific experiences for teachers, learners, and parents.
Cappi is available from R99 per month for use across Windows, macOS and Android devices. The mobile-friendly experience that makes structured educational support accessible wherever learning takes place.
